One real specimen
A butterfly wing, a fossil, a jewel beetle, a snake shed. Real things from the natural world, ethically sourced and chosen for the month’s theme.
Every month has its own theme. We post one real specimen — a butterfly wing, a fossil, a piece of meteorite — with the tools to look at it properly and a story that explains what it is. Not the sort of thing you turn up in the backyard.

Box 1 — packed on a Tuesday

What’s inside
Each month follows its own theme, so every box is a fresh subject — and which specimen is coming stays a secret until the lid comes off.

A butterfly wing, a fossil, a jewel beetle, a snake shed. Real things from the natural world, ethically sourced and chosen for the month’s theme.

A hand lens, a pair of tweezers, a little ruler. Real instruments that fit small hands — not toy versions.

A short illustrated booklet: where it came from, how it works, and one thing to go and try outside.
nothing you could pick up on a walk round the block

It takes a minute. No joining fee, nothing to set up and no box to choose.
Whatever the month is about turns up in the post, tied with string and stamped with a crow footprint.
Twenty minutes at the kitchen table, or a whole Saturday outside. Up to the two of you.
skip a month whenever life gets busy — no phone call needed

Made by hand
This is not a warehouse operation. Every specimen is chosen to suit the month’s theme, sorted on a tray, wrapped in tissue and tied with string. If a corner is a little crooked, that is because a person put it there.
if something arrives broken, write to me and I will remake it

The letter
A short note before each box goes out: the theme, a hint of what is coming without spoiling it, and one thing to look for on your next walk. One letter a month, nothing else.
